CUMBERLAND, R.I.—A Rhode Island man has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder charges stemming from allegations that he fatally stabbed his mother.
Prosecutors said Richard Paiva, of Cumberland, stabbed Rita Paiva inside her home in March.
The victim’s body was found inside the home after police were asked to check on her. Authorities said they found knives around Paiva’s remains and believe she was stabbed repeatedly.
