NEW BEDFORD, Mass.—A new parking lot is open at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.

Hospital and city officials are hoping the 400-car garage off Taber Street will help alleviate parking problems.

Residents living near the hospital had complained for years that hospital employees, patients and visitors took up hundreds of parking places in the neighborhood, sometimes blocking private driveways.

The three-story garage is intended primarily for employee use but will be open to hospital visitors as well.

The hospital does have other parking lots, off Page and Allen streets.
