SEEKONK, Mass.—Three people were taken to the hospital Thursday after fire officials said someone cut a pipe during renovations at Sam’s Club in Seekonk, releasing a hazardous gas into the store.
Fire crews said the leak happened just before noon.
Eight other people were treated for gas exposure.
The leak was originally thought to be Freon, but turned out to be a less hazardous gas.
The conditions of the people taken to the hospital were unknown.
