BOSTON—A 21-year-old Boston College student wearing earphones failed to hear warnings from an oncoming Green Line trolley and was struck while he walked on the tracks.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the accident occurred at 9:20 a.m. on the inbound tracks near the college.

Pesaturo said the trolley operator attempted to get the man’s attention, but he failed to hear the trolley’s horn. The operator could not stop the trolley in time.

The student suffered head and leg injuries. He was conscious and talking when he was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

The track was closed while authorities investigated. Green Line riders were bused between Boston College Station and Washington Street.
