Two Middleborough High School seniors have been killed in a car crash that police blamed partly on excessive speed.
According to police, the car driven by 18-year-old Joseph DeYoung crashed when DeYoung “failed to negotiate a curve in the road.“ DeYoung and a passenger, 17-year-old Brian McMahon, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 1996 Saturn rammed into a tree just before 7 a.m. on Thursday, not far from McMahon’s home.
Police said speed, rainy weather and driving inexperience were contributing factors in the crash.
Middleborough Superintendent Robert Sullivan said in a statement that the school would offer counseling and support services for students and staff when school opens Friday.
