Cicilline says new city buildings must be ‘green’

PROVIDENCE—Mayor David Cicilline has signed an executive order requiring all new Providence city buildings to meet national standards for environmentally friendly design, construction and operation.
He said Wednesday the measure will ensure the city remains focused on renewable energy and the environment as it tries to rebuild its economy around so-called green jobs.
Cicilline announced the executive order from the Providence Career and Technical Academy, which uses solar energy to power parts of the school and heat water. It also installed high-efficiency boilers and light fixtures and uses the environmentally friendly designs to teach lessons in the classroom.

Does this executive order expire if he fails to get re-elected? How many new city buildings are planned in that interval? Meaningless political blather. Initially he opposed this idea because he thought having all the buildings the same color would be boring. Then he learned that green paint never has any lead in it so the children will be safe. Thank goodness.
Why don’t they focus on getting new jobs in the city before putting restrictions on what can be built? Did a reporter think of that question or what?
