A local doctor is holding a hair-transplant contest.

Robert Leonard, a hair-transplant specialist, launched the contest last week.

It’s open to Rhode Island and Massachusetts residents, but only to those people who are unemployed and are need of hair restoration services.

To enter, log on to the contest’s Web site and write in 100 words or less why you should receive a hair-transplant.

Leonard said he’s doing it to give back during touch economic times. He said he’s already getting quite a response.

“We had an applicant (Monday) from Rhode Island who is unemployed, lost a tremendous amount of weight, like 200 pounds, and he’s bald and he’s unemployed. And, he wants to add this to his wonderful weight loss in order to make himself more marketable in the workplace,“ Leonard said.

The application process closes on July 15. Then the entrants will be narrowed down to the top 20 and then the public will be able to vote for the top two winners.
