Deepwater Wind has agreed to lease 117 acres in the Quonset Business Park to use as a staging area for its $1.5 billion proposal to install more than 100 wind turbines off the Rhode Island coast.

The Providence Journal reported that the board of directors of the Quonset Development Corp. voted unanimously Monday for the agreement with the New Jersey company’s 10-year lease.

Gov. Don Carcieri said in a news release that Deepwater Wind will develop the land for a regional manufacturing facility and a regional headquarters.  The company could eventually employ up to 800 workers at Quonset.

State officials believe this could be the firs step in creating a hub for the offshore wind industry on the East Coast.

Ummmm. Shouldn’t someone have told the Govna that the east side of the west passage is where the strongest of the prevailing winds are located in the bay - not the west side

I wonder what kind of a high paying job donnie boy has lined up for himself when he’s out of office.  He’s really pushing this particular company hard.
