The old adage "the show must go on" was never more true than Tuesday night at the Theatre By The Sea in Matunuck.
Just before the performance of "Hairspray," the power went out due to a thunderstorm in the area.
The show was scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., but the audience was informed that it would begin at about 8:15 p.m.
After a short wait, one phase of power was restored, enough for the crew to light part of the stage, power some headphones backstage and run a small keyboard.
The performance began at 8:37 p.m.
During the third scene, full power to the theater was restored, causing one of the actors to make the announcement during a subsequent scene.
After a round of applause from the audience, there was a short pause in the performance, allowing the crew to get all the power running.
The cast was able to complete the performance without any further delays.
"Hairspray" continues thru Aug. 13 at Theatre By The Sea.
