Two former WJAR announcers were among those inducted into the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame on Thursday night.
Members of this year’s class included Jim Mendes, who was one of the key jazz DJs in the state during the 1950s and '60s and was one of the voices of WJAR radio and television, and Don Pardo, who began at WJAR radio in 1938 and went onto national fame as the voice of "Saturday Night Live" and "Jeopardy!" (Watch Pardo's interview with NBC 10's Gene Valicenti in the player above.)
Other inductees were Dan "Giovanni" Centofanti, the WPRO-FM morning show host; Jack Comley, considered a pioneer in talk radio in Rhode Island; George Patrick Duffy, the voice of the Rhode Island Reds; and Jimmy Gray, a former morning show host at WPRO-FM.
WLKW's Norm Jagolinzer and WHJY-FM's Carolyn Fox also took their places in the hall of fame.
The inductees were honored at a banquet at the West Valley Inn in West Warwick. NBC 10's Frank Coletta was the master of ceremonies.
The Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame inducted its first class last year with such legendary figures as Salty Brine and Sherm Strickhouser.
