The Garden City shopping center in Cranston is about to undergo major expansion.
The Wilder Companies, the company that owns the shopping center, unveiled plans Monday for a multi-million dollar redevelopment of the area.
Plans include renovating the gazebo, and including a connection that will include the shopping center at Whole Foods Market.
The company also plans on turning former large retail spaces into small and mid-size stores.
Ann Taylor is among the new stores moving in, and Williams-Sonoma is expected to expand.
Several current tenants have also entered into new multi-year leases which include Starbucks, Hallmark, Yankee Candle and Providence Diamond Company.
"What we're talking about is an expansion and a redevelopment of the shopping center. Some may ask, 'Why expand when there are some unoccupied areas?' We see those areas as opportunities and what happens is we are now able to bridge the gap between the village and commons and extend that village merchandising an experience down through the balance of the center," said Tom Wilder of the Wilder Companies.
Construction for the new Garden City should be completed by early next year.
