Work starts on $42 million Providence complex

Construction on a new $42 million health services office and retail complex in Providence is getting under way.

The Providence Community Health Centers Inc. will relocate its Allen Berry clinic to the new 41,000-square-foot building.

It is expected to add services, including a suite devoted to behavioral health care and a seven-day-a-week urgent care center.

U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., is among the dignitaries expected to attend Monday's groundbreaking. The complex is being built with about $3 million in federal funding.

Proponents call it a way to improve health care for the poor and uninsured while boosting the economy in an impoverished section of the city.
