PROVIDENCE -- Keith Stokes, the new director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corp., says he's ready for a change.
Stokes spoke Thursday at the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce Business Over Easy Breakfast in Providence.
Stokes, who served on the EDC board for 15 years, said the agency lacks consistency and that he plans to change that.
Stokes said he doesn't blame any one agency or state leader.
"The function of economic development in this state for many, many years, for far too long, has been under capitalized, under resourced, fragmented in services and programs, and most importantly, it's been undervalued by elected leadership," Stokes said.
Stoke said he'll spend the next year utilizing a review panel's suggestion.
He said the goal is to change the function and culture of economic development in Rhode Island, which will lead to more jobs.
Stokes said the proposed wind turbine project slated for the state would be a major economic boon.
